Mushroom Growing Bags

Mushroom bags are simply containers used to place the substrate and spawn mix when growing mushrooms. When people refer to mushroom growing bags, they’re often referring to bags that are gusseted, autoclavable, made from polypropylene and bags that may have a filter patch.

The filter on a mushroom bag allows fresh air to reach the mushroom mycelium during the incubation and growing process without allowing contaminants such as bacteria or mould spores from entering the container.

Mushroom bags can be used for many things within mushroom cultivation, from a spawn bag to a fruiting block. For many hobbyist growers, a mushroom bag can be used from start to finish of a growing project – from substrate pasteurisation right through to fruiting.

Using a fresh mushroom growing bag for a project is usually the easiest but you can reuse your bag if you haven’t cut it open for fruiting. If you are performing pasteurisation or sterilisation in the bag, however, you may find that the bag and filter will deteriorate with each use.
