How do our kits work?
We offer two types of mushroom growing kits to suit your needs:
Gift Kit
Perfect for presents. This version includes a mushroom spawn voucher, allowing the recipient to redeem their spawn when they're ready to start growing. It’s a flexible option that ensures freshness and convenience for the grower.
DIY Kit
Ready to get growing right away? The DIY version comes with mushroom spawn included, so you can get started as soon as your kit arrives.
We separate the spawn from our Gift Kits because mushroom spawn is a live product and needs to be used within a few days of arrival to ensure the best results.
How should I store my kit?
DIY Kits (with spawn): Use as soon as possible, ideally within 10 days.
- White Elm, Blue-Grey, Golden Oyster: keep spawn in the fridge.
- Pink Oyster: store in a cool place around 10°C (don’t refrigerate).
Gift Kits (voucher): Store the kit at room temperature, avoid damp conditions. Redeem the spawn voucher when ready to grow.
Does my voucher have an expiry date?
Our vouchers champion the luxury of no expiry date, giving you the freedom to redeem it whenever you're prepared to start your kit.
Can I eat the mushrooms?
Yes! Oyster mushrooms are 100% edible and are known for their delicious flavour and versatility in cooking.
We always recommend cooking your Oyster mushrooms before eating them, as this enhances their flavour, texture, and digestibility. Eating them raw can sometimes cause mild digestive upset and may reduce the absorption of beneficial nutrients.

Are oyster mushroom growing kits easy to use?
Yes. Our Oyster mushroom growing kits are designed for beginners as well as experienced growers. Each kit comes with substrate and live spawn – you simply mix them and keep the conditions right. After an incubation period of a few weeks for the mycelium to colonise, you’ll start to see your first flush of mushrooms.
Which is the easiest oyster mushroom to grow?
Blue-Grey Oyster is usually the easiest mushroom to grow. It colonises quickly, tolerates a wide range of conditions, and fruits reliably well. Other varieties, like PinkorYellow-Gold Oyster mushrooms, are also relatively easy, though they can be more sensitive to temperature changes.
Where's the best place to put an Oyster mushroom growing kit?
Place your Oyster mushroom growing kit somewhere with good airflow, indirect light, and steady humidity. Kitchens, bathrooms, or utility rooms often work well. Avoid direct sunlight or very dry areas, as Oyster mushrooms prefer a cooler, damp environment to thrive.
What's the lifespan of an oyster mushroom growing kit?
Most Oyster mushroom growing kits will produce two to three flushes over several weeks. With regular misting and good conditions, you can expect multiple harvests before the substrate is fully spent.
